Thoughts about Diet Books and Programs

There are some very successful diet books out there, and even some successful diet shows on tv. I wonder how similar the diet industry is to the car industry? I mean, I’ve heard that auto makers don’t make much money when selling a brand new car because the big bucks is in the after-care or spare parts market. I wonder if these diet gurus are selling their diet books at a loss, just so people will buy their special supplements, or the gurus line of exercise equipment?


Notes on Sucralose

I don’t trust many artificial sweeteners and I think that the studies done on sucralose may surprise you. According to Dr. Mercola , the longest trial lasted only four days. The study did NOT look at human tolerance, instead it looked at sucralose in relation to tooth decay.

It seems that sucralose was only tested on a total of 36 people before the FDA approved it. If this is true, then that is really scary! Forget about watching horror movies, the real horror may be what you’re feeding your family. Mercola even claims that sucralose is made from phosgene, a POISONOUS gas!

I think I need to do more research on this, but for now, this substance is not going to be brought into my home.


Crockpot Green Chile Grits for my son

This sounds interesting, yet easy. I hope he likes it:

2 cups regular grits
6 cups water
1/2 to 1 tsp salt
4-6 ounces chopped mild green chiles
1 or more jalapeƱo chiles — seeded, chopped fine
1 dash cayenne

Combine all ingredients in the crockpot and cook on LOW
for 6 to 9 hours or on HIGH 2 to 3 hours, stirring
occasionally. If cooking on high, add 1/4 to 1/2 cup more
water if too thick.
