This scientist won a Nobel Prize?
I’m really on the fence when it comes to Johannes Andreas Grib Fibiger. In 1926, he won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. The Danish scientist claimed he had discovered an organism that he named Spiroptera carcinoma and he asserted that rats developed cancer by eating roaches that were infested with this organism.
On one hand, he turned out to be dead wrong about the organism because it actually turned out to be a worm or nematode. However, his research showed that damaged cells formed tumors because of stimulation by worms. He showed that outer causes such as infections can cause cancer. Too bad more scientists aren’t doing more research along these lines.
