“Losing weight” has such a negative connotation

Posted by Admin :: May 30'th

I think that we need to come up with a different term besides “losing weight”. Generally speaking, “losing” or “loss” doesn’t sound positive, in my opinion. If you think about it, you lose things like your car keys, or spare change. Even when somone passes away, that’s referred to as a “loss”. Shouldn’t becoming fit be referred to in other terms that sound more supportive and affirming? I can’t think of another term that should be used right now, I just wish we, as a society, could find a different term to express ourselves when a person slims down. (Wow, there it is again! “Down” isn’t very positive either, is it? I’m going to have to think about these terms and start some sort of grass roots movement or something.)

Diet Coke Plus gets F minus from me

Posted by Admin :: May 25'th

My local grocery store is giving away free bottles of Diet Coke Plus, so I thought I’d give it a try. I have to say that I don’t think any carbonated drink is healthy for you, but I think I can put aside my beverage bias and look at this product objectivity:

First of all, it feels different in the mouth than other sodas, even diet sodas. It has a slight hint of viscosity, like you’re drinking something with a hint of oil. It also doesn’t give you the same enjoyment of carbonation, and almost tastes like it had gone flat. (Fwiw, I opened this and drank it right away, in order to formulate my opinion.)

I used to be a hardcore Pepsi addict, but I also appreciate the good, classic taste that Coke has offered to generations of consumers. In my opinion, Diet Coke Plus has none of the taste that Coke fans love, and this extends to the taste of classic diet Coke.

Product Review: Pamela’s Products Ultimate Baking & Pancake Mix

Posted by Admin :: May 25'th

This pancake mix is not low calorie per se, but it is wheat and gluten free. Although I am trying to watch both my weight and my intake of gluten, there are times when pancakes are a welcome treat. This mix makes terrific pancakes, and although I won’t eat it more than once a month, that is not because of taste, but because its not a typical low calorie meal.

It’s also super easy to use, and personally, I think the whole family would love these pancakes and not even miss the taste of conventional store bought mixes.

Rev your motor with Fresh From Florida

Posted by Admin :: May 25'th

As a nation, we rely on our farmers to provide healthy and nutritious food. The farmers in Florida not only provide foods to our country, but to the entire globe. As a matter of fact, farming and agriculture in Florida is a $87 billion industry and their hard work is the backbone of our country. I don’t think we’d survive for very long if it weren’t for the hard work they put in, and I’m glad I can rely upon them to provide good food for me and my family to eat.

Until now, Florida agriculture has been considered a quiet industry. Well, that’s about to change! Its time to turn up your speakers, buckle up your seat belts and enjoy this video:

Diet by Da Vinci

Posted by Admin :: May 25'th

I just found this site that claims to have Da Vinci’s Prescription for Life. I say “claims” because I don’t know if the translation is accurate or not. Be that as it may, it does have some fascinating advice, such as, “Do not eat when you have no appetite, and dine lightly” and “Beware anger and avoid stuffy air”.

Like I said, I didn’t verify the claims of the translator, but I think that “beware anger” is great advice, no matter who said it. In my opinion, people don’t realize how much their moods can impact their health and well being. We should all be teaching our families and our children to “beware anger”.

Insurance: A Smart Idea

Posted by Admin :: May 20'th

Prices and costs are rising on everything. What used to be a normal trip to the dentist could end up costing you big bucks. That’s why its a good idea to have Dental Insurance for you and your family. Scrimping on insurance now may save you a few cents today, but it could end up costing you much more in the future. After all, you wouldn’t operate your vehicle without auto insurance, so why not protect your teeth as well? Remember, the teeth you have now are the only teeth you’re going to get, so make sure you take good care of them.

An interesting article about death

Posted by Admin :: May 20'th

Scientists are studying death and the surrounding mechanisms, even at cellular level. Their research shows that a sudden introduction of oxygen into deprived cells may actually harm people instead of being beneficial. This discovery could have long term implications, as they try to chart the best way to deal with oxygen deprivation. Tests may show that its best to gradually resuscitate someone, instead of rushing quickly to restore their breathing.

When my computer crashed the other day

Posted by Admin :: May 20'th

I almost freaked out when I thought of everything that I had stored because I worried that everything would be lost. A friend of mine recently took their computer in for repair, and the technicians fixed her fan, and also wiped out all of her bookmarks and settings.

I just found a site that offers free Online Backup . Users can get 2GB of storage space absolutely free. For example, I’ve got very old pictures of my ancestors. The original site I found them closed down. Fortunately, they allowed me to copy the photographs, so the pictures are stored on my hard drive. I shudder to think of losing them because I didn’t save them. I am definitely going to check out what IDrive-E offers. For example, if I think I need more than 2GB, they also offer unlimited storage space for a very low fee. I don’t know which option I’ll choose, but I know that by using their services, I won’t have to worry about losing anything stored on my computer again.

How long can you expect to live?

Posted by Admin :: May 20'th

I just found a site that offers visitors the chance to play the “Longevity Game“. It appears to be sponsored by Northwestern Mutual, an insurance company. They say that they factor in such variables as drinking, how a person handles stress, driving record and smoking. I wonder if they factor in other types of tobacco too? Some tobacco addicts think they are safer if they use non-smoking types of tobacco, like chews, but many scientists say its all deadly.

Well, I kind of went off on a tangent, but if you want to play the game then share your score with me, I’d appreciate it. :)

Watering your lawn shouldn’t be an Olympic Sport

Posted by Admin :: May 20'th

Let’s face it, now that summer’s here, watering the lawn can be a bother. First you have to wrestle the kinks out of the hose, then you have to remember to coil it up so you don’t trip over it the next time you want to use it, so the whole idea can turn into an ordeal.

I’ve found a great hose reel that takes all the hassle out of lawn maintenance. The innovative NO-CRANK hose reel is water powered and rewinds your hose without electricity or batteries. The best part is no cranking! You just flip a lever and water power will rewind the hose for you. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in exercising, but now, you can do it at the gym when you want and not when you’re trying to water your roses.
