Avoiding operations you may not want or need

I just read that a staggering 12,000 people each year die from unnecessary surgery. This article from CNN details five operations that many people may be able to avoid, especially if the alternative solutions are followed. Personally, I never knew that so many people rely on surgery for heartburn relief. I know I used to suffer greatly from heartburn, but am practically symptomatic after making a few changes in my life. I’m not a doctor or a medical practitioner, but my acid reflux pretty much disappeared after I took digestive enzymes (from GNC) for two months. If I do have a bit of a flare up, then I take acidophilus caps. To me, acidophilus is a lot less traumatic than contemplating surgery I may not even need.
