“What is a good exercise for Autumn?”

Posted by Admin :: Sep 30'th

Recently, I was asked that question and my answer is, “A good exercise is anything that provides you with a challenge, that you enjoy doing, and that you want to do again.” I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, don’t try to plan your exercise schedule based on someone else’s likes and dislikes. I like to bike ride, “Bob” likes jogging, and “Mary” prefers skating. Which one of us is doing the “best” exercise? I think that as long as a person does what they like and they feel challenged, then everyone’s a winner in my scenario. Personally, you couldn’t pay me enough to skate, so that is NOT a good option for me, lol. However, I really enjoy a good bike ride, so as long as I stick with what I like, then the odds are that I will incorporate that exercise into my personal schedule.

This outdoor sport makes you jump for joy

Have you heard of PoweriZer Running and Jumping Stilts? They certainly look like they would give you a good workout. I wonder how long it takes to become proficient while using them? Do you suppose they’re easy to learn, or do you think there’s much of a learning curve involved? I looked in the picture gallery, and didn’t see how someone is supposed to start or stop while wearing these. They sure would make a pick up basketball game interesting, lol. I hope you enjoy the video, but please keep the disclaimer in the back of your mind:

Do you change your outdoor activity when the weather changes?

Posted by Admin :: Sep 25'th

Here in Arizona, now that its getting cooler, its time to spend a lot more time outside enjoying outdoor activities and sports. This is the perfect weather for bike riding and taking long walks. I know that in other parts of the country, the temperatures may be too cool to wear shorts outside, but try to get outside as much as possible and participate in an outdoor activity or sport you enjoy.

When people try to find the ‘best’ sport to lose weight and tone up, it’s true that the best one is the one that you’ll enjoy the most because that’s the one that you’ll want to keep doing. If you’re trying to decide between participating in weekly jogs in your local park or paddling a boat on its lake, choose the activity that suits your personality and tastes the most. The main thing is, go outside, find an enjoyable activity and keep doing it.

Silver as an antibiotic?

Posted by Admin :: Sep 24'th

Several years ago, I tried a colloidal silver product without success. I pretty much gave up on the entire concept until I found this article at CNN. Among other things, it says, “Silver [provides] bacterial protection from the worst of the worst, as well as the ability to stimulate tissue growth,” he said. “We have the ability to save people’s lives.”

I may give it another try because this article sounds so promising. If you’re considering trying it as well, I would strongly suggest doing a lot of research on the subject. I would never use a home made solution. I vaguely remember the tale of one guy that used a home made solution, and judging from the picture, he used too much. (Wish I could find the corresponding article, but this is what showed up in a google image search.)

Life just got easier for Personal Trainers and other Consultants

You may may be an expert at the latest forms of cardio exercise, and stay current on the latest diet and nutrition news, but its also necessary to keep track of the business aspect as well. If you have staff working for you, it can be rather complicated to keep track of their time as well as your own.

I found some great software that integrates seamlessly with Quickbooks Timesheet . Not only can it help personal fitness trainers, it can help anyone that is looking for a web-based timesheet that exports directly into quickbooks for easy billing. I have a friend that owns a gym, and he and his manager spend countless hours figuring out the time for each of their trainers. I’m going to suggest to him that he should take a look at Journyx Accountlink and see how easy it is to use. Their site has an informative FAQ section and online demos as well. So now my friend can use this software and free up more of his time because he won’t have to calculate everything. This will also help him run his business more smoothly and make tracking his employees time a snap.

Cancer Links and Research

Posted by Admin :: Sep 23'rd

I recently received an email from someone regarding cancer. I thought I would post these links to help them, but I also want to STRONGLY ADVISE THAT THEY DISCUSS EVERYTHING WITH THEIR DOCTORS. I am NOT a health care professional, and NO ONE should diagnose/treat themselves based on what they read on a blog or online. Please, take care of yourself and remember that this is presented as information only. I do believe that just about everything is treatable, but don’t take risks on anything that seems wacky or unproven.

I found it interesting that a Nobel Prize was awarded for proving that cancer cells are anaerobic, meaning they do not burn glucose, but rather they ferment glucose in order to get their energy. Here are further links on the subject:

How will they know what’s wrong if I’m unconscious?

Posted by Admin :: Sep 23'rd

Over the years, I’ve managed to develop allergies to latex and neoprene. While they’re currently not impacting my life in any form, I’ve been advised to avoid them at all costs in order to avoid a full-blown severe allergic reaction. When I am treated by a doctor or nurse, I’m able to tell them “no latex”, but what would happen to me if I were in a car accident and unable to tell the emergency workers about my condition? I think that it might be a good idea for me to wear a Medical Alert Tag listing my allergies, so I don’t worry about what would happen if I couldn’t tell the EMT not to touch me while wearing latex gloves.

I recently accepted an opportunity to review American Medical ID, a site that where visitors can buy items such as Medical ID necklaces and bracelets. I think it is vitally important for health care professionals to be able to treat you and your condition appropriately. For example, lets say you’re diabetic and become unconscious as a result. Your health situation could become severely complicated if medical personnel are unable to quickly find out what’s wrong with you. As a matter of fact, if you have any ongoing health condition, a medical alert ID presents a concise overview of your conditions, allergies and medicines, alerting the doctor or medic before starting treatment.

I am really impressed with the styles and selections they offer in a wide variety of price ranges. You can choose materials such as 14k Gold, 10k Gold, 10kt Gold Filled, Sterling Silver or Stainless Steel. As a matter of fact, one of the things that impressed me the most is that you get to build your bracelet or necklace. You design your medical ID according to your needs, tastes and situation. Their pieces look stylish, modern and fashionable, so you don’t have to worry about wearing clunky and ugly jewelry. They even have a a men’s line of titanium bracelets available as well.

Each person that purchases a medical ID qualifies for free registration with American Medical ID’s Online Medical Registry. You’ll be able maintain an online personal health file of your up-to-date medical information. You can access the site from anywhere, and they also offer the opportunity to access a registered nurse 24/7, for emergencies or ongoing health questions. This lifetime service is totally free with no enrollment fees or annual fees ever!

If you, or a loved one has any sort of health issues, then wearing a medical ID offers you and your loved ones peace of mind. Medical IDs save lives! One day, a medical ID may save you. Take a few minutes to visit American Medical ID and you’ll be amazed at how easy it is to obtain the assurance you need.

Right now, Vitaminshoppe.com is having a “buy one, get one at 50% off” sale on various brands of vitamins. You can also get free super saver shipping if you spend $99 or more. The normal super saver charge is only $2.99, so even if you don’t spend $99, you’ll still probably save more than it would cost you to drive around town stocking up on vitamins. The sale is only good through one week from today, so check it out to see if there’s anything you need.

Drugstore.com is offering free shipping on all orders $25 or more, and they’re also having a big “Beauty Bonanza” sale, with savings from 30 to 50% off. If you like Burt’s Gees, or Mrs. Meyers products, those are also 30% off right now.

Here’s a top secret hint just for you, but you can’t tell anyone, okay?

Go right now, and buy twenty five dollars worth of Burts Bees gift sets. When they arrive, stick them in your closet and forget about them till December. When Christmas rolls around, you’ll have a bit of a head start on your shopping, and no one will know that you didn’t pay full price for the gift sets.

Pepto-Bismol for dogs

Posted by Admin :: Sep 15'th

Recently, my dog suffered from diarrhea. Everything else seemed fine, and she was her normal playful self. But her digestive system had gotten out of whack. I did a google search and found many sites that said that Pepto-Bismol is safe to give to dogs. We gave it a try, and sure enough, it worked exactly like the sites said.

If your dog is having stomach problems, make sure to check with your vet before trying anything. But while talking to your vet, ask if you can try to resolve the situation with Pepto-Bismol. Make sure your dog’s symptoms are checked by a professional before you try any treatment at home. Diarrhea can be the sign of a very serious problem for dogs, so don’t take a gamble on your pets life. Personally, I was ready to head out the door to the animal hospital in case the Pepto didn’t work immediately. But it did work, she’s a lot better, and now I know to make sure to remove the cat food as soon as meal time is over, so that she won’t snack on it again.
