Workout while sitting at your desk or couch

Posted by Admin :: Feb 25'th

I found this series at CNN, and while they say it’s “exercise for couch potatoes“, I think they’re relevant to just about everyone and could even be an integral part of your exercise routine if you’re mobility challenged. Start with the stretches on the first tab, then watch the other short videos for other ways to exercise without having to go to a gym.

This isn’t exactly exercise per se. Although, you have to admit that everyone in the video got a fair amount of exercise while it was taped. I thought it was amazing how so many people were able to stay in synch with no mistakes. Then again, I think the participants in the video probably had a lot of time on their hands for rehearsals. I also hope the participants got to see the final results.

Another funny YouTube video

Posted by Admin :: Oct 16'th

I’ve respected Richard Simmons for years. I’m not a big fan of David Letterman, but I know that Simmons goes on his show and they stage a prank or an argument for entertainment. In this video, Simmons is demonstrating one of his new products, but there’s a … malfunction.

I can’t tell if Simmons was in on the gag or not. I tend to believe he knew ahead of time. I don’t fault him for acting surprised because that’s part of the show, right? (Despite this clip, I do think this product would be cool to have. I wonder if a lot of people bought it because of Simmon’s appearance on Letterman?)

From YouTube

I just did a search for “Fitness” on Youtube. I was really surprised at the video with the most views, using that term. As a matter of fact, the counter shows 23,551,641 views, and its been favorited 157354 times. Even though the video was added in July of 2006, people are still commenting on it, someone just left a comment less than a minute ago, so now there are 26851 comments. Overall, I am amazed by the statistics, especially when it’s just a video of four guys exercising on treadmills. ;-)

Heading for a walk or a jog outside? Try a whiff of peppermint first

Posted by Admin :: Oct 12'th

Some researchers are claiming that a whiff of peppermint can help you to increase your energy level while you exercise. I’ve never heard of it being used like that, but I know that some ancient cultures used peppermint for upset stomach, colic, and gas. Personally, I’ve found that it helps with a wide variety of stomach complaints, and I always keep some around in some form or another. But I’d like to see more research done on the claims that it helps with your energy, speed, alertness, confidence, and strength.

The study was done among 29 athletes that were given peppermint inhalers and then asked to rate their effectiveness. Interestingly, the article mentions that peppermint inhalers are available at health stores for 2.99.

Personally, I’d rather just buy the essential oil or suck on an Altoid.

Memory Tricks for the Middle-Aged

Posted by Admin :: Oct 10'th

Between you and me, I’m not sure when middle-aged starts. It used to start at age 35, but it seems that many have pushed to age fifty and beyond. Regardless of how young you feel, there are times when your memory isn’t what it used to be. If you’re looking for a little help, you can try these 10 memory boosting hints from CNN. Some of them seem pretty self-explanatory, like learn a new language or play games to help improve your memorization skils. But the exercises sound like a new idea that could be very beneficial. So check out the article, and then come back and let me know your opinion. That is, if you don’t forget my url.

Melatonin slows Breast Cancer?

Posted by Admin :: Oct 9'th

I take melatonin on a regular basis, I have found that it helps me tremendously to fall asleep and get a good night’s rest. Recently, I found an article that discusses the link between bright lights at night, cancer, and how melatonin can slow down cancer by as much as 70 percent. Part of the article says that exposure to constant light causes tumors to grow rapidly, and using lights at night may cause our bodies to  revert back to the daytime condition.

The finding may explain why nurses who often work the night shift have high rates of breast and colon cancer. Trials are being conducted to find out further benefits of melatonin, which has no toxicity. As a matter of fact, it’s virtually impossible to overdose on it, and I think its much safer than any sleep aid, OTC or prescribed. But make sure to discuss this, or any other pills or supplements with your health care provider before adding it to your regimen.

“What is a good exercise for Autumn?”

Posted by Admin :: Sep 30'th

Recently, I was asked that question and my answer is, “A good exercise is anything that provides you with a challenge, that you enjoy doing, and that you want to do again.” I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, don’t try to plan your exercise schedule based on someone else’s likes and dislikes. I like to bike ride, “Bob” likes jogging, and “Mary” prefers skating. Which one of us is doing the “best” exercise? I think that as long as a person does what they like and they feel challenged, then everyone’s a winner in my scenario. Personally, you couldn’t pay me enough to skate, so that is NOT a good option for me, lol. However, I really enjoy a good bike ride, so as long as I stick with what I like, then the odds are that I will incorporate that exercise into my personal schedule.

This outdoor sport makes you jump for joy

Have you heard of PoweriZer Running and Jumping Stilts? They certainly look like they would give you a good workout. I wonder how long it takes to become proficient while using them? Do you suppose they’re easy to learn, or do you think there’s much of a learning curve involved? I looked in the picture gallery, and didn’t see how someone is supposed to start or stop while wearing these. They sure would make a pick up basketball game interesting, lol. I hope you enjoy the video, but please keep the disclaimer in the back of your mind:

Want to improve your Golf game?

Posted by Admin :: Aug 26'th

I don’t play golf, but I know many people that do. To me it seems that they spend a lot of their free time working on their technique and skill. If you’re one of the many golfers that want to develop the perfect golf swing I think I found exactly what you need. I recently accepted an offer to review TwoMinuteGolfPro, and found all sorts of help for every level of playing expertise. I found that they have great tips that’ll help you improve your game. For example, an instructive article about The Surge has step by step directions and detailed photographs so you can follow along and master the technique by following their instructions.

Membership at their site is available at several levels. The Red Tee membership is free and you get access to their forums, golf tips news and articles, as well as their monthly newsletter. The next level is the Green Tee, offered at 5.95 per month. It includes everything offered in the Red Tee, as well as 3 free video Video Viewings a month and the chance to submit your questions and videos to their Golf Pros for their review and feedback. There are a total of four membership levels, with each one offering diverse benefits. For example, Blue Tee members receive a comprehensive package including consultations with a combined value of 139.90.

I am a firm believer that if you find a form of exercise that you enjoy, make it your passion so that it helps you to live a longer and healthier life. If you’re a golfer, or are considering learning more about the sport, make sure to check out TwoMinuteGolfPro and see everything they have to offer.
