Do you heart your liver?

After reading about how being overweight can seriously damage your liver, I decided to do some research. I found a great list at DoctorYourself.com titled, “There must be Fifteen Ways to Love Your Liver“.  Some of it’s common sense stuff we should all know, like avoiding alcohol, and washing your hands after using the bathroom. [...]

Pepto-Bismol and my dog

I get a lot of visits from people searching for Pepto Bismol and dogs because of two posts I did, one about how much it helped my dog, and the other about how it is dangerous for cats. I’m happy to report that my dog is doing fine and only needs Pepto-Bismol on rare occasions. [...]

A look at the battle against cancer

I want to preface this by saying the article I read doesn’t mention any alternative therapies, such as the Budwig diet. However, the reporters at Newsweek have presented a lengthy (five pages) and compelling discussion of what has been done in the fight against cancer and why these methods haven’t succeeded. It states that many [...]

Obesity can cause severe liver damage

I always knew there are health risks associated with being overweight, but I didn’t know it could cause nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, especially in teens. I have to admit that this report on MSNBC shocked me to the core. The story talks about patient such as a fifteen year old boy  at 5-feet-4 that weighed [...]

Too much denture cream can cause health hazard

I know we’ve all seen the commercials on tv, showing a healthy amount of adhesive can help denture wearers. However, the medical journal Neurology reports that denture-wearing patients developed neurological problems and abnormally high levels of zinc in their blood due to overusing the product. The study, done by  Dr. Sharon P. Nations of the [...]

Little Jessica Leonard succeeds at weight loss

I don’t know if you’ve heard of her before, but just in case, she is the little seven year old girl that weighed over 400 pounds. Thankfully, CPS stepped in, took her away from her mother and put her in a supervised setting that controlled her eating and helped her become active.  According to this [...]

Why I’ll NEVER order a wedge of lemon for my tea AGAIN

I love iced tea, and its my beverage of choice when eating out. I usually get it with a slice of lemon, but I’ll drink it straight from now on. A recent study shows that there is some form of contamination on over sixty percent of all lemon slices in restaurants, including fecal contamination. This [...]

Pepto Bismol Safe for Your Dog, DEADLY for Your Cat

NEVER give Pepto Bismol to your cat (generic name Bismuth Subsalicylate). I am a big fan of Pepto-Bismol for humans and dogs, but the ingredients in Bismuth Subsalicylate can kill your cat. PetEducation.com says “Bismuth subsalicylate should NOT be given to cats except under direct supervision by your veterinarian. ” So never EVER use [...]

Are you getting a flu shot this season?

I haven’t decided whether or not I’ll get one. On one hand, they’re supposed to limit your number of sick days, but on the other hand, it might just be healthier to try to build up your own immune system naturally. I don’t totally discount all vaccinations, but I certainly am on the fence about [...]
