I ordered them in my usual size and waited for them to arrive.  They showed up yesterday, I tried them on, and they are TOO BIG!! YAY!!! I know that knit pants have some give to them, but these go all the way up to my armpits! I need to send them back and get the right size. Then again, I could just get some suspenders and create a whole new fashion look for myself.

I have to read the label every time http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/06/18/i-have-to-read-the-label-every-time/ http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/06/18/i-have-to-read-the-label-every-time/#comments Thu, 18 Jun 2009 18:54:56 +0000 SaneFitness http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/06/18/i-have-to-read-the-label-every-time/ I’ve been enjoying some rice noodles with vegetables and a splash of soy sauce. However, I just looked at the soy sauce label and it has WHEAT!!! Darn it, it’s such a good tasting brand too, so full of flavor that I only need a little dash. I’m not blaming the makers, I guess I should just get used to reading the labels on everything. It’s my fault for assuming that soy sauce is only made of soy.

Going a bit crazy from trying to lose weight right now http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/06/10/going-a-bit-crazy-from-trying-to-lose-weight-right-now/ http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/06/10/going-a-bit-crazy-from-trying-to-lose-weight-right-now/#comments Wed, 10 Jun 2009 21:33:50 +0000 SaneFitness http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/06/10/going-a-bit-crazy-from-trying-to-lose-weight-right-now/ I got on the scales yesterday for my regular weigh-in, and was shocked to find out that I had GAINED WEIGHT! I don’t know how that is possible because I have been eating nothing, absolutely nothing but healthy foods for awhile. I am eating tons of veggies, good lean protein and no flour/gluten. There’s nothing bad in the house to tempt me, unless I count a lone bag of Dum Dum pops. Gone are the donuts, the pizza, the chocolate ice cream,  the Hot Pockets. If it’s not healthy, I don’t buy it.

A few years ago, I used to stop for a fast food breakfast every day before work. I would usually get a sausage biscuit (or two),  a mutant form of potatoes and the largest cola they had. Then for lunch, I’d hit the same drive through and get a burger, fries and another 55 gallon drum of soda. I’d also occasionally get a pastry sometime during the day.

My gosh, that was some gross eating I did back then! Some of it might have tasted good, but I was feeding my body pure garbage every day. I really do like what I’m eating nowadays much better! I  actually do prefer a nice piece of fruit over a chocolate candy bar any day of the week now.

So, I guess, even though I am not (temporarily) not succeeding at losing weight, I am succeeding at changing what I eat.  When I started this post, I was kind of bummed because the numbers on scale didn’t go down. Now, after writing all this out, I’m feeling pretty positive. I’ll take my victories where I can find them, so instead of worrying about what the scale says,  today I’ll be glad about my freedom from unhealthy food. It’s time for me to celebrate “Donut Liberation Day”!

Working on my “Store” http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/06/08/working-on-my-store/ http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/06/08/working-on-my-store/#comments Tue, 09 Jun 2009 06:11:54 +0000 SaneFitness http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/06/08/working-on-my-store/ I’m actually logging into the site on a (semi) regular basis, but I’m trying to build a store full of healthy food products on the main page. I don’t know how long it’s going to take me to finish it, but I’d rather make sure I get all the right stuff, instead of rushing through it all and adding stuff that I personally wouldn’t use.

Zevia News Flash for Sunflower Market Shoppers! http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/06/02/zevia-news-flash-for-sunflower-market-shoppers/ http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/06/02/zevia-news-flash-for-sunflower-market-shoppers/#comments Tue, 02 Jun 2009 21:50:09 +0000 SaneFitness http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/06/02/zevia-news-flash-for-sunflower-market-shoppers/ If you’re in Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico or Texas and there’s a Sunflower Market nearby (Newflower in Texas), then head there tomorrow to stock up on Zevia, the only diet soda sweetened by stevia. It’s going to be three bucks a six pack, which works out to fifty cents a can. Sale is good through June 10th, so that give you plenty of time to stock up and save.

If you can’t get to Sunflower, Amazon has Zevia as well, but it’s about double the sales price at Sunflower, about a buck a can. But isn’t that about the going rate at most vending machines nowadays for all types of canned soda? Of course, it’s best not to drink any type of sodas at all, but if you’re at the point where you’re craving some fizz, then at least with Zevia, you don’t have to worry about harmful artificial sweeteners. In case you haven’t heard of it, it’s a zero calorie sweetener made from the leaf of the stevia plant. That’s right, NO CALORIES and it tastes just like sugar. I use it in powdered form in my oatmeal as well as my tea. I haven’t tried baking with it yet, but that’s because I haven’t researched that yet. Maybe I’ll pop open a cold Zevia and sit here looking for more recipes with stevia and post what I find.

Salad for breakfast is a FAIL! http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/05/07/salad-for-breakfast-is-a-fail/ http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/05/07/salad-for-breakfast-is-a-fail/#comments Thu, 07 May 2009 23:19:14 +0000 SaneFitness http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/05/07/salad-for-breakfast-is-a-fail/ I decided to try an experiment and see if salad would be a good choice for me for breakfast. I love salad, could eat it for lunch every day, but how would it stand up as breakfast fare?

I like eating big hearty breakfasts and light dinners, so when I woke up, my stomach was empty and grumbling about it. I was still a bit sleepy so I decided to grab a small bag of pre-made salad and jump right in.

Well, I ended up eating the entire bag of salad before I even got close to being full. I wonder if the human body is conditioned to want fats and protein first thing in the morning so in case we’re confronted with a heavy physical work load? I can’t imagine Laura Ingalls’ Pa going off to plow the north 4o acres after noshing on  lettuce and kale, so maybe that’s why most cultures have giant meals first thing in the morning.

Another thing.. salad is very crunchy and it just seemed weird to eat crunchy foods right after waking up. If you think about it. most breakfast foods are soft and mushy, like:
Eggs
oatmeal
pancakes
hash browns

I don’t know whether cold cereal should be counted as crunchy or mushy. Look at Rice Krispies.. they start off saying, “Snap!” “Crackle!” “Pop!” but they sure change their tune when the cold milk hits them.

Seriously, aside from oatmeal, I’ve given up on most traditional breakfast foods for breakfast. I just wish I could think of a way to easily add vegetables to my breakfast. Maybe tomorrow I’ll try a nice hot bowl of zucchini and see how satisfying it is.

Vegetables for breakfast??? http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/05/04/vegetables-for-breakfast/ http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/05/04/vegetables-for-breakfast/#comments Mon, 04 May 2009 22:06:25 +0000 SaneFitness http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/05/04/vegetables-for-breakfast/ When you think of the typical breakfast, things like cereal, eggs, pancakes and pork products (ham, bacon, sausage) come to mind. I wonder why vegetables were never incorporated into the standard American breakfast? Oh yeah, I nearly forgot about potatoes, but considering they’re usually morphed into another shaped and then fried, I don’t think they should count.

It takes as long to eat chop up a zucchini as it does to grate potatoes fo hash browns, so the time factor can’t be the reason. I wonder if there’s some old wives’ tale out there, something like “If you eat carrots before noon, you’ll regret it soon”, or some nonsense like that. I may have to do a bit of research on this, or I may just start defying this unwritten “law”. I guess I’ll just have to be a rebel with a salad fork.

My new diet food: Huy Fong Sriracha Chili Sauce http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/04/10/my-new-diet-food-huy-fong-sriracha-chili-sauce/ http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/04/10/my-new-diet-food-huy-fong-sriracha-chili-sauce/#comments Fri, 10 Apr 2009 23:41:27 +0000 SaneFitness http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/04/10/my-new-diet-food-huy-fong-sriracha-chili-sauce/  huyfong.jpgIf you’re tired of eating diet food that’s dull and bland, you will LOVE Huy Fong Sriracha Chili Sauce . It is now my favorite sauce ever! Until I tried it, I always thought that one hot sauce is like another, right? I mean, all sauces use the same primary ingredients (chili peppers, vinegar, garlic, sugar and salt) so I’ve never favored one over the other. That all changed when I tried Huy Fong bran,  I am now a dedicated addict fan of the product!

Let’s get the nutritional information out of the way first: One serving (a teaspoon) has FIVE calories, 100 mg of sodium and 1 g of sugar. Although, if you can eat more than a teaspoon of this in one serving you are far braver than I. This sauce has a great fiery kick, so make sure you start off slowly until you build up a tolerance for it. No need to slather your food with it at first, unless you’re on good terms with the local hazmat team.

All kidding aside, it’s heat level is comparable to most Tabasco sauces, but Huy Fong chili sauce is far superior to Tabasco, imo. To me, Tabasco just add heat to food, but Huy Fong adds layers of flavors that enhance food without overpowering. Huy Fong is kind of garlicky, kind of sweet, with a gradual lingering afterburn. To me, it’s heat compliments the flavor of the food instead of competing against it.

Tonight, I plan on having low-sodium soup for dinner. I think a couple drops of Huy Fong will change it from being dull as dishwater and add just the right amount of zip.  It tastes great on steamed veggies, raw veggies, just about anything you can imagine. Tomorrow for a snack, I plan on putting the chili sauce in a dipping bowl and then gingerly dip each popcorn.

I plan on doing more experimenting with this and if I come up with anything unique, I’ll post it here. For now, my motto is going to be “Out with the salt, in with the Huy Fong chili sauce!”

Trying to get back in the saddle again http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/04/09/trying-to-get-back-in-the-saddle-again/ http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/04/09/trying-to-get-back-in-the-saddle-again/#comments Thu, 09 Apr 2009 20:46:11 +0000 SaneFitness http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/04/09/trying-to-get-back-in-the-saddle-again/ I want to start blogging again because I have found that the more I blog about weight loss, the more time I spend offline thinking about my goals.  Strange thing is, once I’ve logged on here, my first inclination is to find a suitable theme. I don’t like the one I have now, and sorting through a bunch of template sites seems so daunting to me right now. But if I want a blog that suits my personality, I guess I’ll have to do the necessary work to accomplish that goal. Now that I think of it, there are no easy fixes in life, whether you’re talking about weight loss, or blogging. :)

Dieting and genetic disorders http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/02/17/dieting-and-genetic-disorders/ http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/02/17/dieting-and-genetic-disorders/#comments Wed, 18 Feb 2009 01:39:52 +0000 SaneFitness http://blog.sanefitness.com/2009/02/17/dieting-and-genetic-disorders/ Well, I was doing pretty good at watching what I was eating, and then suddenly my health took a severe turn for the worse. I’m better now and plan on blogging more about it later, but for now, I’m not watching my calories as closely as I was while I try to get a handle on my medical situation.
